The final instalment of the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy could be released as soon as three years from now
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the second of three planned parts of the remake of the 1997 cult JRPG, was released at the end of February.
So far Square Enix developers do not share information about the final game of the trilogy, but thanks to the book Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Ultimania published in Japan, the approximate plans of the game designers became known.
Here's What We Know
Rebirth game director Tetsuya Nomura and producer Yoshinori Kitase told the authors of the book that the main plot of the last part of FF VII Remake has already been written and the process of recording voice actors may start soon.
The developers noted that after the 2020 release of Final Fantasy VII Remake, the team spent one year developing DLC and porting the game to PC, while Rebirth took three years to produce.
Yoshinori Kitase noted that both released games were handled by the same team, ensuring that efficiency remained consistently high. The final part of the trilogy will be made by the same developers, so the producer believes that it may well be released in three years.
In addition, the 30th anniversary celebrations of the original Final Fantasy VII are planned for 2027, so it would be logical and beautiful to complete the remake trilogy in that year.
The book states that the developers want to add "something very important to the game that wasn't in the original". They didn't clarify what that would be, but emphasised that fans would love to see this element in the game.
Games based on the Final Fantasy VII universe may continue to be released, but for game director Tetsue Nomura, the third part of the remake will be the last project in his career, as he is no longer young and has no plans to work further.
