Meta is introducing a chatbot for Instagram conversations

Meta, a company actively investing in artificial intelligence (AI) research, is gradually integrating its advances into its social platforms. After implementing the Meta AI chatbot on WhatsApp, a similar feature is now being tested on Instagram.

Here's What We Know

This chatbot works similarly to a standard Direct Message conversation with a friend. The feature is currently in the testing phase and is only available to a select group of beta users.

The Meta AI chatbot in Instagram uses Meta's own large language model, Llama 2, which is different from the in-development Llama 3. The current version of Meta AI on Instagram is mainly focused on offering recommendations in chats. Users can also interact with the chatbot through predefined options in a drop-down menu.

While Meta AI does not yet compete directly with advanced tools such as ChatGPT, its integration is indicative of the growing trend of AI-assisted communication on Meta platforms including WhatsApp and Messenger. However, the feature is still in the evaluation phase. Its long-term value will depend on its development and the range of features it offers.
