Philippines successfully tests Israeli Spike missile
The Philippine Navy tested the Israeli Spike multifunctional missile system.
Here's What We Know
The tests confirmed the missile's high accuracy, as it hit a target at a distance of 20 kilometres. The Spike missile from the Israeli company Rafael Advanced Defence Systems is equipped with advanced electro-optical and infrared sensors, which allows it to operate both day and night. The missile is also capable of striking at a distance of up to 30 kilometres.
According to the Commander of the Philippine Navy, John Percy Alcos, this successful launch is a "leap forward" in the development of precision munitions.
Previously, a short-range version of the Spike was successfully deployed on the Philippines' multi-purpose attack boat with a 4km range. Now, the testing of the new long-range missile expands the Navy's capabilities: greater effectiveness and range in various combat scenarios.
