The music didn't last long: Samsung once again overtakes Apple in terms of smartphones shipped
According to IDC, Apple's smartphone shipments fell by about 10% in the first quarter of 2024 due to increased competition from rivals.
Here's What We Know
Global smartphone shipments grew by 7.8% to 289.4 million units in January-March. Samsung gained a bigger slice of the pie and now has 20.8% of the market, ranking first among all phone manufacturers.
The decline in iPhone shipments comes after a successful December quarter, when Apple overtook Samsung as the world's largest handset maker. However, it is now in second place with a market share of 17.3%.
This decline may be due to the strengthening positions of Chinese brands, such as Huawei and Xiaomi, which are increasing their presence in the smartphone market. For example, Xiaomi, one of the leading Chinese manufacturers, was ranked third with a market share of 14.1%.
Samsung is now actively moving forward, for example, at the beginning of the year they released a new flagship line of smartphones, the Galaxy S24 series. In a few months, the South Korean company managed to ship more than 60 million phones.
