Samsung introduces the world's first 10.7 Gbps LPDDR5X DRAM chip

Samsung, the world's leading memory manufacturer, has unveiled its fastest LPDDR5X DRAM chip. The new chip can achieve data transfer rates of up to 10.7Gbps, which is faster than the 6.4Gbps LPDDR5X chip released in 2021 and the 8.5Gbps LPDDR5X DRAM chip introduced in 2022.

Here's What We Know

Samsung's new LPDDR5X DRAM chips will be available in late 2024. They can be used in laptops, smartphones and tablets. The new chips are manufactured using 12nm process technology, which is quite advanced in the memory segment. Samsung also claims that its new chip is the most compact in the LPDDR segment, paving the way for smaller and thinner devices.

The new chip offers 25 per cent faster performance and 30 per cent higher capacity. The new chip is also claimed to be optimised for better AI performance. With the growth of AI processing on devices in computers, laptops, smartphones and tablets, such devices require high-speed and power-efficient memory. The capacity of the new chip has been increased to 32GB, making it the optimal solution for AI processing on a device.

These chips will be tested in the second half of this year and could be ready for flagship devices by the end of this year.
