New strategy: Samsung sets 6-day working week for its management
Korean tech giant Samsung has announced the introduction of a six-day working week for its executives due to its financial condition. According to a report by the Korea Economic Daily (KED), the company is taking this step because its financial targets are not meeting expectations.
Here's What We Know
The new work schedule includes the inclusion of Saturday or Sunday as an additional working day for executives, which becomes official. While the rest of Samsung's employees are not affected by this measure, they continue to work a standard five-day workweek.
In addition, it is worth noting that Korea has legislation that allows for a 40-hour workweek, as well as potentially up to 12 hours of overtime per week. However, research conducted by The Washington Post suggests that some workers actually exceed these norms by working many more hours without being paid accordingly.
Recently, the government attempted to introduce a new working time initiative that would have introduced a 69-hour working week across the country. However, this move sparked a backlash from the public and workers, forcing the South Korean government to reconsider its decision.
