Hongqi enters the smartphone market: Competitors for Nio and Polestar
After the successful releases of smartphones from Nio and Polestar, Hongqi is preparing to produce its own smartphone.
Here's What We Know
In collaboration with Geely-backed parts supplier Ecarx, Hongqi plans to create high-quality smartphones under its own brand.
Hongqi will work to create deep integration between its smartphones and cars, which could significantly improve the user experience of both products.
For example, it is possible that through special software or apps, users will be able to control various functions of their car via their smartphone, such as pre-starting the engine, setting up climate control or navigation, and monitoring the car's health. On the other hand, drivers can receive reminders and notifications about their vehicle's status, as well as interact with its safety systems via their smartphone.
The agreement between Ecarx and FAW, which was signed today at the automaker's headquarters in Changchun, Jilin, will cover cooperation in the development of Hongqi's operating system and smartphone manufacturing.
Hongqi, which is the premium New Energy Vehicle (NEV) division of China's FAW, continues to climb the market. Their retail sales in 2023 grew by 135%, demonstrating the steady demand for their vehicles and the potential to develop in new technology areas.
