Forbes news: Samsung CEO Lee Jae-yong becomes the richest man in South Korea
According to Forbes magazine, Samsung Electronics CEO Lee Jae-yong was ranked first among the richest people in South Korea. According to the latest update of the list, Lee's net worth is estimated at 15.81 trillion won (approximately $11.5 billion).
Here's What We Know
Lee Jae-yong's financial performance is attributed to the recent rise in the company's share price, which was the result of an important order from Nvidia for HBM (High-Bandwidth Memory) semiconductor chips used for artificial intelligence processing.
The previous leader of the list, MBK Partners Chairman Kim Byung-joo, was ranked second this year with a net worth of $9.7 billion. Celltrion CEO Seo Jeong-jin took third place with $7.5 billion in assets.
Lee Jae-yong, who has been heading Samsung since 2020, took over the company after the death of his father Lee Kun-hee. For many years, Lee Kun-hee was at the top of the list of the richest people in South Korea.
It is worth noting that Lee Jae-yong has been imprisoned in the past due to allegations of financial fraud, but he was acquitted due to lack of evidence.
