European users of the Galaxy S22 range are getting an update related to 4G networks
Samsung has updated the software for some devices destined for the European market this week to include changes regarding compatibility with 4G networks. The update was initially released for the Galaxy S24, S23, Fold 5, Flip 5 and Galaxy A54, and now it's coming to the Galaxy S22 series as well.
Here's What We Know
This update is apparently exclusive to the European continent and may not be available in other regions. Users of the Galaxy S22 series smartphones should receive a notification of the new update, which has a build number of S90*BXXU8DXD6. Unlike most updates, this one has a very specific list of changes. The description states that "updated support for 4G TDD regional frequency band type". Installing the update on devices purchased in Germany will disable support for 4G TDD networks in Belgium, Denmark, Germany, France, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Switzerland and the Czech Republic.
In Europe, most operators use 4G FDD networks as TDD networks have weaker performance due to limited frequency spectrum, so people who bought their Galaxy S22, S22+ or S22 Ultra in Germany are unlikely to encounter any real problems connecting to 4G mobile networks in any of the countries mentioned.
The next update for Galaxy S22 owners outside of Europe is likely to be the one that brings One UI 6.1. It's scheduled for release next month.
