Mercedes-Benz is ahead of the competition: First Level 3 autonomous cars in the US
Mercedes-Benz has set a new standard in the world of autonomous technology by becoming the first automaker to sell vehicles with advanced autonomous features in the United States.
Here's What We Know
After successfully obtaining sales authorisation in California and Nevada last year, Mercedes Drive Pilot vehicles hit the road with some caveats.
This new service from Mercedes allows drivers to enjoy the benefits of Level 3 autonomous driving without having to pay constant attention to the road. According to Fortune, as of 11 April, 65 Mercedes vehicles with Drive Pilot have already been sold in California, and the models are also available in Nevada.
Drive Pilot is available on the new 2024 EQS sedans and S-Class models and requires an annual subscription of $2,500. Although the feature is limited, the car's ability to control speed and distance on motorways up to 40 mph has impressed many.
While other manufacturers, such as Tesla, offer Level 2 autonomous driving systems, Mercedes is reasserting its leadership by working on Level 4 systems.
