Resident Evil and The Evil Within creator Shinji Mikami tells why he left Tango Gameworks and confirms the opening of a new studio
In March, it became known that after leaving his own company Tango Gameworks, the famous Japanese game designer Shinji Mikami founded a new studio Kamuy.
Since the information about it appeared on the site of Shadows of the Damned remaster, which is in no way connected with Mikami, it was necessary to wait for confirmation from the developer himself, and finally it appeared.
Here's What We Know
Mikami confirmed that after a short rest, he has taken over the management of the new studio Kamuy.
He noted that he hopes to realise his old ideas in the new team, which did not find a place in Tango Gameworks and other studios where he worked.
The game designer admitted that despite his position as producer of his own studio, he didn't feel that he had any real influence on the processes taking place in the company.
He left Tango primarily because he wanted to move away from the horror genre and create small authorial projects, in the development of which he can pass all his experience to young game designers and give them the freedom of creativity.
Mikami stated that out of 12 years of work at Tango Gameworks, he was going to leave the studio for 8 years, but because of the responsibility for the projects he started, he stayed, finished the work and only then left.
By the way, about Tango Gameworks: after the merger with Bethesda (2010) the studio got a new name - ZeniMax Asia K.K, but Shinji Mikami agreed that the old name of the studio will be announced in the public space.
