China develops Neucyber brain implant, a competitor to Neuralink
The Chinese company Beijing Xinzhida Neurotechnology has aroused the interest of the scientific world by introducing its own brain chip called Neucyber.
Here's What We Know
This interface that allows connecting the brain with a computer has already been successfully used to control a robotic monkey arm. According to Reuters, this Chinese project has received support from the Chinese Community Party.
Compared to its American competitor Neuralink, Neucyber uses a less invasive approach, which may be more acceptable to humans.
However, so far, the Neucyber product has only been tested on monkeys, and further human trials have not yet been announced. This opens up additional research and development opportunities in this area, including the creation of safer interfaces for future use with humans.
Neucyber was unveiled at the annual Zhongguancun tech forum in Beijing, where the BCI technology was recognised as an important new advancement.
