US space forces test defence against 'space' attacks

The US Space Force recently tested a new Remote Modular Terminal (RMT) weapon that can defend against attacks from space.

Here's What We Know

The RMT can jam enemy satellites by flooding the airwaves with false signals. When radio waves disrupt the communication signals sent to and from the satellite, control problems arise.

According to the Space Training and Readiness Command (STARCOM), the test was the first time the system was deployed in two separate locations and controlled from a third, demonstrating operational flexibility.

The weapon was evaluated on the basis of target accuracy and network security, but the test results have not yet been made public.

There are few details about the RMT, but official photos show that the device resembles a satellite dish with a diameter of about 3 metres. The main task is to make enemy satellites "dead" for communication, and therefore for surveillance or weapon guidance. The system is designed to be used in large numbers and remotely controlled to keep soldiers out of harm's way.
