Cool visuals, cool characters, but a long running time: Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes received 83% freshness from critics on RottenTomatoes
The Planet of the Apes franchise, which centres on the theme of intelligent apes dominating humans, began with a novel by French writer Pierre Boulle published in 1963. However, the younger generation is probably more familiar with the franchise thanks to the film trilogy directed by Matt Reeves.
On 9 May, the new instalment premiered, directed by Wes Ball, the director of The Maze Runner. And before going to the screening, it is worth reading the opinions of film critics.
Here's What We Know
The Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes received 83% freshness on RottenTomatoes.
In general, critics were satisfied and noted that Wes managed to set a new vector for the franchise. They also praised the visual effects, which have been impressive since the trailers, as well as the film's characters. Especially the film's protagonist and antagonist.
However, among the disadvantages, they noted the somewhat extended running time (145 minutes), as well as the lack of such an intense drama as in the Reeves trilogy.
