Apple launches AI features with M2 Ultra servers

According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple is preparing to implement some of the iOS 18 innovations using data centres equipped with its own M2 Ultra chips.

Here's What We Know

These new servers will provide data processing for a number of iCloud features and other AI products of the company. The M2 Ultra chips will be designed to solve the complex tasks faced by artificial intelligence systems on Apple devices.

Although some functions can be performed directly on users' devices, heavy-duty tasks, such as processing large amounts of data or speech recognition, will require a connection to the cloud. It is noted that this strategy is in line with the popularity of artificial intelligence products among users, such as ChatGPT.

However, given the importance of data privacy, Apple claims that M2 Ultra chips will provide a high level of protection and confidentiality. At the same time, the company reserves the possibility of using servers of other companies in the future.

According to Mark Gurman, although it was initially expected that all iOS 18 features would be available without a cloud connection, in fact, some of them may require processing on servers.
