It's official: a new film based on The Lord of the Rings universe starring Gollum will be released in 2026
Embracer Group has announced that it has already started production on two new films based on The Lord of the Rings cult universe.
Here's What We Know
Middle-earth-Enterprises, which is a subsidiary of Embracer Group, along with Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line Cinema, have begun work on the films, about which little is known so far.
It is reported that the main character of the first film, which will be released in 2026, will be Gollum, one of the most recognisable characters in the saga. The role of the cursed hobbit will be played by famous actor Andy Serkis, who embodied the image of this character in previous films. He will also be the director of The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum.
The screenplay will be written by Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens along with Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou.
This experienced team, led by Peter Jackson, has previously worked on The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit film trilogies and the quality of their work has been recognised worldwide.
There is absolutely no information about the second film yet.
The creators of the film are confident that the audience will look forward to the release of a new story about Gollum and the team of professionals will do their best not to disappoint the audience.
