On 9 May, the film Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes premiered. One of the main characters is May, played by young actress Freya Allan. You may know her from her role as Ciri in the TV series The Witcher. While watching the film, May's motivation and backstory remain mysterious for a long time, but Freya told us more about her character.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Allan shares his own insights into what happened to May before she first crossed paths with Noah.

Freya said that at first, May was travelling with the camp. She was with humans, and teaming up with apes was not part of the plan. Her camp was attacked and all the people were killed. So she was left alone and she had to form a team with Noah because there was no one else. But that wasn't part of her plan, so she's gradually deciding what to do next. Mei also did not want to stop believing in the rebirth of humanity.

The protagonist's parents tried to carry out the same mission as Mei, but they did not return and probably died. She does not know this. So she does it for the people she loves, and that includes all of humanity. All she has left is this mission.

As a reminder, the film received an 83% fresh score from critics on RottenTomatoes, and grossed $56 million in the US in its opening weekend, the second best result in the franchise's history.
