The final scene of the film Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes was originally planned to be more intense, but it was reworked to make it more subtle
We wrote that Freya Allan told the backstory of her character May, who is one of the most important characters in the film Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. But in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Allan also spoke about the final scene, which was originally different.
Here's What We Know
There are spoilers for the film Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes in the news!
In the finale, we see Noah saying goodbye to May, and the girl is holding a gun behind her back, but the scene was originally a bit different.
May was pointing the gun at Noah, but his back was turned to her. And May is crying as she does so, but at the last moment she doesn't shoot as soon as Noah mentions Raki's name. After that, she puts the gun down.
Freya said that during the editing process, the filmmakers wanted to make the scene more subtle, and the actress likes the final result better.
"It's much smarter and really allows you to think more. It doesn't have to be as obvious as holding a gun, and it allows you to raise the questions you just asked: Was she going there to kill them, or was it a warning? That's up to you."
The film received an 83% fresh score from critics on RottenTomatoes, and grossed $56 million in the US in its opening weekend, the second-best result in the franchise's history.
