The Circle to Search feature should appear on iPhone (in Chrome)

As spotted by our colleagues at The Mac Observer, a new "Lens Circle to Search" checkbox has been quietly added to Google Chrome for iOS. Google Lens is the technology behind Google's visual search, allowing users to search based on images on a smartphone or tablet screen. It has now evolved to include the Circle to Search feature, which debuted on the Galaxy S24 and Google Pixel 8. And now it is gradually coming to other Android smartphones and, in general, the mobile version of the Chrome browser, which is also available for iOS users.

Here's What We Know

The Mac Observer has spotted the possibility of adding a new "Lens Circle to Search" checkbox to the browser code, which means that users can search for items by circling them on the screen in Chrome for iOS. Once enabled, this feature will be available in Google Lens on iOS devices. It's unclear if this will only apply to iPhones, but historically, new features are added to Apple smartphones first and then to tablets.

It is possible that the launch of this feature will be announced at the WWDC 2024 conference, which starts on 10 June, where we can expect many software announcements (this is a conference for developers). Everything related to artificial intelligence will be of particular interest there.
