US Army is not satisfied with the latest laser weapons
The US Army is collecting feedback from its soldiers on the integration of a 50-kilowatt laser weapon on the Stryker armoured vehicle, but the answers are not yet positive.
Here's What We Know
The Chief Acquisition Officer Doug Bush recently told the Senate that soldiers testing the latest short-range directed energy missile system (DE M-SHORAD) are having difficulties with the system at different power levels.
According to Bush, a power level of 50 kilowatts may be too powerful for use on a moving vehicle. He noted that the heat dissipation, electronics, and overall wear and tear in tactical environments are different from stationary conditions.
Despite preliminary successes in the laboratory, the use of DE M-SHORAD in real combat situations is proving to be more challenging than expected. General James Mingus emphasised that while the tool can be effective in certain conditions, it needs to be improved.
