Kia electric pickup similar to EV9 spotted in California (video)
A prototype of Kia's upcoming electric pickup truck has been spotted testing in California. YouTube channel KindelAuto captured footage of the truck during road tests.
Here's What We Know
The vehicle is similar to the Kia EV9 SUV, so it can compete with models such as the Ford Ranger and possibly even the Rivian R1T. While the camouflage hides many details, the front panel of the prototype resembles the EV9.
The electric pickup truck could be powered by Kia's E-GMP platform, a modular architecture already used for several popular electric vehicles such as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6, as well as the Kia EV6 and EV9.
The prototype is in line with Kia's previously announced plans to launch two electric pickups by 2026. One of them is intended for emerging markets, while the other will be a dedicated electric pickup for markets such as the United States.
Questions remain about where it will be produced. Kia would have to produce the truck domestically to qualify for the $7,500 federal tax credit available for electric vehicles made in America.
