South Korea and the UK to host second global summit on AI control
This week, South Korea and the United Kingdom will co-host the second Global Artificial Intelligence Summit in Seoul.
Here's What We Know
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and South Korean President Yun Suk-yeol will watch the virtual summit on Tuesday, amid calls for better regulation of artificial intelligence despite sharp disagreements over how the technology could affect humanity.
In a joint statement published in South Korea's JoongAng Ilbo, the two leaders emphasised: "Only global standards for artificial intelligence can stop the race."
Initially, the summit was announced as an AI security event, but its scope has expanded to include three main areas: security, innovation, and engagement.
Last year's "November Summit" in the UK has already attracted the attention of leading figures in the industry, such as Elon Musk and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. In addition, China has joined the "Bletchley Declaration" initiative with the United States and other countries to collectively address AI-related challenges.
