Philippines receives two T129 ATAK helicopters from Turkey

The Philippine Air Force (PAF) has received two T129 ATAK helicopters from Turkey.

This important event took place at the 15th Strike Wing base in Sangley Point, Cavite. The T129 ATAK helicopters are designed to be used in conjunction with light helicopters performing surveillance and transport missions. This will greatly enhance the effectiveness and readiness of the Philippine Air Force to meet the challenges of today.

With these two newest helicopters, the Philippines now has six helicopters. The weapons were purchased as part of a large-scale deal worth $280 million. The T129 ATAK deal is part of Horizon 2, a $5.2 billion modernisation programme for the Philippine Armed Forces.

The helicopter is also used by Turkey and Nigeria, which has ordered six T-129s in 2022.

The T-129 ATAK is a twin-engine attack helicopter designed for reconnaissance and combat operations in any environment. Based on the Leonardo A129 Mangusta, this variant is equipped with avionics and weapon systems developed by the Turkish aerospace industry. Its weapons: M197 20mm triple-barreled rotary gun, eight 160mm anti-tank guided missiles and up to four unguided missile pods.
