Pixar will lay off 14% of employees: Disney plans to return to focus on quality, not quantity of content for streaming
Pixar's recent years can hardly be called successful, given the kind of cartoons it created in the early 2000s. Therefore, the studio began a restructuring process that led to layoffs.
Here's What We Know
Approximately 14% of Pixar employees will be laid off. This is about 175 people. Before the layoffs, the animation studio employed about 1,300 people. Senior management will not be affected by the layoffs.
The layoffs are due to the fact that Disney plans to return to focusing on the quality rather than quantity of content for streaming.
Pixar employees have known about the layoffs since January. Although some media outlets reported that they would cut 20%, not 14%. Last year, layoffs took place across Disney, but the cuts at Pixar were postponed due to production schedules.
Now, all hopes are pinned on the studio's animated film Inside Out 2, which will be released on 14 June.
