TCL introduces the world's first triple-folding phone
TCL continues to surprise with innovation, having announced itself at two major industry events in recent weeks. At SID 2024 (Society for Information Display), TCL was once again in the spotlight, unveiling the world's first triple-folding phone.
Here's What We Know
TCL's triple-folding phone concept started in 2019 with a prototype demonstration. However, this year, the concept has evolved into a fully functional device. The unfolded phone features a spacious 7.85-inch display, blurring the line between smartphone and tablet.
The innovative "Free-type" display technology is a key feature. It offers users amazing flexibility, allowing the phone to fold flat or in "Z" and "G" configurations. TCL has solved the previous problem of excessive thickness by introducing a new panel that is only 427 microns thick, making the phone surprisingly thin and comfortable to hold.
3D face-scanning technology, which utilises sensors located under the screen, also contributes to improved security. The entire display area, including the sensor area, has a uniform pixel density of 420 PPI, ensuring perfect visual quality.
The display panel incorporates LTPO (Low Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide) technology. This allows the phone to dynamically adjust its refresh rate from 1Hz to 120Hz, optimising battery life and providing smooth visuals when needed.
For now, details of mass production and release date remain unknown. TCL's triple folding phone certainly represents a significant breakthrough in mobile technology. The debut of TCL's triple folding phone will certainly spur new innovations in the foldable device market. There are rumours that competitors such as Huawei and Samsung are developing even larger foldable models.
