Big changes in gaming journalism: IGN Entertainment has bought the popular portals Eurogamer, VG247 and Rock Paper Shotgun

There was an important event in gaming journalism: IGN Entertainment announced the purchase of Gamer Network holding.

As a reminder, IGN Entertainment is a part of Ziff Davis concern together with popular resources MapGenie, HowLongToBeat and Humble Bundle.

Here's What We Know

The amount of the deal is not specified, but it is known that the Gamer Network group includes well-known sites:

  • GamesIndustry.biz;
  • Eurogamer in six languages;
  • Rock Paper Shotgun;
  • VG247;
  • Dicebreaker.

Gamer Network also owns shares in Outside Xbox, Digital Foundry and Hookshot, which in turn operates Nintendolife, PushSquare, PureXbox and Time Extension.

Representatives of Digital Foundry and Hookshot separately noted that this purchase will not affect them in any way, the sites will continue to operate autonomously from the rest of the Gamer Network group.

Gamer Network retains the rights to the EGX and MCM shows, as well as the Popverse brand, which remained part of ReedPop.

With the news of the acquisition of Gamer Network's assets, it was revealed that IGN Entertainment has started layoffs. For example, GamesIndustry.biz editor-in-chief Brendan Sinclair, who has been with the site since 2012, and Rock Paper Shotgun deputy editor Alice Bell are already out of a job.
