The voices of Rick and Morty for the fighting game MultiVersus were re-recorded due to scandals and accusations against Justin Roiland, the author of the original voice of both characters
MultiVersus, a free-to-play fighting game with characters owned by Warner Bros., will be released on 28 May. One of the characters will be Rick and Morty from the animated series of the same name, but they were dubbed due to a scandal with the show's creator.
Here's What We Know
Initially, the game used the voice of Justin Roiland, the co-author of the series and the author of the original voice of both characters, for Rick and Morty. However, the characters were dubbed by Ian Cardoni and Harry Belden.
Why did this happen? In 2023, it was reported that Justin was charged with domestic battery. Because of this, Adult Swim parted ways with the author. After the scandal, Royland also left his game studio Squanch Games.
In March 2023, the charges against Royland were dropped for lack of evidence. It would seem that everything was over, but in the autumn, new allegations emerged that Royland had had sexual contact with underage fans. True, no new charges have been brought since then, but no one was going to let Justin's voice go either.
When We Can Expect It
MultiVersus will be released on 28 May on PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series. The game will feature crossplay and cross-progression.
