France can produce 100 Bastion armoured vehicles for Ukraine
France has confirmed that 100 Bastion armoured vehicles, developed by Arquus, can be produced for Ukraine.
Here's What We Know
Arquus CEO Emmanuel Levacher said that the company currently produces only 11 Bastion armoured vehicles. He also added that an additional 100 armoured vehicles may be ordered for Ukraine.
Earlier, in April 2023, it was announced that Ukraine would be supplied with Bastion, but the implementation of the plans was delayed due to various circumstances, including the lack of the necessary agreement between France and Ukraine. Meanwhile, the provision of similar vehicles to Armenia created some tension among representatives of the French government. Subsequently, these armoured vehicles were withdrawn and France stressed the priority of cooperation with Ukraine.
They are scheduled to be delivered in July 2024. The company also noted that if Ukraine expresses a desire, up to a hundred additional Bastion vehicles can be produced.
Flashback
The Bastion was developed by ACMAT, a division of Arquus (formerly Renault Trucks Defence). It is designed for various military and peacekeeping missions. The armoured vehicle provides a high level of protection thanks to its armoured body that can withstand small arms fire and mine explosions. The vehicle is also equipped with a 215 horsepower diesel engine, which allows it to reach speeds of up to 110 km/h. In addition, the Bastion can carry up to 10 people or 2 tonnes of cargo. The vehicle is actively used by the armed forces of many countries, including France, Mali, Burkina Faso and others.
