The UK is close to deploying the $1.6bn nuclear-powered submarine HMS Anson with Tomahawk cruise missiles

The UK Royal Navy is preparing to deploy its fifth Astute-class nuclear-powered attack submarine. The submarine HMS Anson has completed tests off the US east coast.

Tests of the nuclear-powered submarine's systems and weapons were conducted at a US Navy test range near the Bahamas. The tests allowed to assess the submarine's ability to move in stealth mode, and the crew had the opportunity to go ashore and spend a few days on Andros Island.

HMS Anson is a nuclear-powered submarine costing around £1.3bn ($1.6bn). She is the fifth Astute-class attack submarine in service with the UK Royal Navy. The submarine can carry Spearfish torpedoes and Tomahawk cruise missiles in Block V configuration.
