The tipster @StellaFudge on X (Twitter) has posted several images of this band and claims that this design could be part of the "Apple Band Range". He describes the different types of this accessory, noting less than 15 varieties.
One of the straps is sporty and available in red or white. The photos published below show the red version of this sport strap. There are also reportedly several leather variants available in brown, red, and ultraviolet.

The images show that the buckle is attached to a strap and has a pin to secure it at the end. The insider also notes that this strap is adjustable like a sports strap, but has a greater degree of wrist support.
It is not known why Apple did not decide to put this design into production. However, the user suggests that this may be due to difficulties in the production of the buckle and difficulties in adjusting the size of the strap.
