The AFU will receive Saab ASC 890 ADF: what kind of aircraft it is, technical characteristics and advantages

Today, 29 May, Sweden announced the largest military aid package for Ukraine for $1.3bn, which included the Saab ASC 890 aircraft. The gg editorial board has studied information about it and will now briefly tell you about its characteristics and features.

The ASC 890 is a multi-role airborne command and control aircraft developed on the basis of the Saab 340 platform. Its primary purpose is to fulfil command, control, communications and reconnaissance (C4ISR) missions. The ASC 890 plays an important role in providing situational awareness and coordination in various military operations.

The main features of the ASC 890 are.

Erieye Radar:

The ASC 890 is equipped with the Erieye active phased array (AESA) radar, which provides high accuracy detection and tracking of air and ground targets. This radar is capable of detecting low-observable targets at long ranges (about 500 kilometres) and operating effectively in electronic suppression environments.

Command post:

The aircraft is equipped with state-of-the-art communication and command and control systems, which enables effective coordination of various units and interaction with other branches of the armed forces. The ASC 890 can act as an airborne command post, providing real-time control and command. The aircraft has a crew of six.

Mobility and autonomy:

Based on the Saab 340 platform, the ASC 890 is highly mobile and capable of long-duration flight. It can perform missions at high altitudes and in inaccessible areas, providing continuous control and monitoring.
