Apple is preparing new features for CarPlay in iOS 18
In less than two weeks, iOS 18 is expected to be unveiled at Apple's annual WWDC developer conference, where updates for CarPlay will be presented.
The first beta version of iOS 18 is likely to become available to members of the Apple Developer Programme after the WWDC keynote on 10 June, with the public beta version usually released in July. The update is scheduled for release in September.
Here's What's New About It
The update will include several new features for CarPlay, including:
- Voice control: Users will be able to control CarPlay with their voice only, making it easier to interact with the system while driving.
- Colour filters: The addition of colour filters will help make CarPlay easier to use for people with colour blindness.
- Sound recognition: This feature will allow drivers or passengers with hearing impairments to be notified of driving-related sounds directly through CarPlay.
All of these new options will be available on iPhone and iPad.
Also at WWDC 2022, Apple will unveil the next generation of CarPlay with integration with the car's dashboard, climate control system, FM radio, and more.
The first models of the next generation CarPlay cars are expected to be released in 2024. However, so far, automakers such as Porsche and Aston Martin have yet to introduce them.
