Unexpected: Ukraine will receive not one, but two Swedish Saab 340 AEW&C (ACS 890) long-range radar detection and control aeroplanes.

Yesterday, 29 May, we wrote that Sweden was giving Ukraine a new aid package worth $1.3bn, which included a Saab 340 AEW&C (ACS 890) aircraft. As it turned out, there will be two planes.

Here's What We Know

The information was clarified by the spokesman for the Swedish Prime Minister Tom Samuelsson on Twitter. He also showed photos from the official ceremony of handing over the aircraft to the Ukrainian ambassador to Sweden.

When deliveries of the Saab 340 AEW&C (ACS 890) will start - no information yet.

The Saab 340 AEW&C (ACS 890) is a multi-role early warning and control aircraft developed by the Swedish company Saab. It is equipped with an Erieye active phased array (AESA) radar, providing high accuracy detection of air and ground targets up to 500 kilometres away. The aircraft is designed to perform air surveillance, command and control, communications and reconnaissance missions. It can coordinate the actions of various military units in real time.
