Huawei overtakes Samsung in foldable smartphone sales: new market leader in the first quarter of 2024
According to a new report from Counterpoint Research, Huawei became the leader in sales of foldable smartphones in the first quarter of this year, overtaking Samsung. Huawei's sales grew by 257%, exceeding the expectations of many analysts, especially in the context of restrictions on access to Google services in most countries.
Here's What We Know
Samsung lost its leadership, experiencing a 42% year-on-year decline in sales. The release of new models, such as the Galaxy Flip6, will help them regain their market position.
Honor took third place with 460% sales growth, especially outside of China, where they gained popularity with the Magic V2. Motorola also showed significant growth in sales, increasing by 1473%.
Overall, the foldable market grew by 49% year-on-year, with foldable smartphones accounting for 55% of all global shipments in the first quarter of 2024, surpassing clamshell models.
New models from Samsung, Huawei, Xiaomi, and Honor are expected to be released later this year, which could change the dynamics of the foldable device market.
