AI Siri feature will appear in iOS 18 not earlier than 2025
Apple is preparing a major update for its personal assistant Siri in iOS 18, which is expected to appear no earlier than 2025. According to Bloomberg, the new update will allow Siri to control all individual functions in applications for the first time, significantly expanding the range of its capabilities.
Here's What We Know
The integrated Siri feature in iOS 18 will allow users to open documents, move notes, delete emails, summarise articles, send web links via email, and open Apple News websites.
Apple also plans to use artificial intelligence to analyse user actions on devices, automatically activating Siri functions.
Apple engineers have rebuilt Siri's underlying software using large language models similar to those used in chatbots such as ChatGPT. In addition, Apple is in talks with OpenAI and Google about the possibility of integrating OpenAI ChatGPT and Google Gemini technologies into Siri. However, Siri's functionality is likely to depend on the development of Apple's own LLM technology.
New Siri features will be available only for Apple applications after their presentation at WWDC 2024.
The main artificial intelligence tasks in iOS 18 will be handled on devices, with advanced capabilities relying on Apple's cloud servers. Part of Siri's technology will include code to determine whether requests can be processed on devices or on Apple's servers.
Apple's AI servers will be powered by M2 Ultra and M4 chips, using Secure Enclave to protect data privacy. In addition, Apple plans to provide customers with an intelligent report on the storage of information.
More details about Siri AI updates will be presented at WWDC 2024 on 10 June.
