China "pushed" Russia out of the African arms market
China has increased supplies of military equipment to African countries, replacing Russia in the market.
Here's What We Know
In recent years, China has been able to "push" Russia out of the African arms market due to the fact that it has a wider range of equipment and more favourable conditions.
According to The Economist, Chinese arms exports today start with firearms and end with warships ordered by Djibouti and Mauritania.
In addition, China is actively supplying various drones to Nigeria, Congo and many others. This interest is probably due to the favourable loans offered by China. The publication notes that between 2019 and 2023, at least 21 African countries received weapons from China.
This approach expands China's influence in Africa and improves relations with most countries on the continent.
It is worth noting that historically, France dominated the arms market in African countries, but due to the high cost of weapons and less affordable conditions, African states have begun to look for new suppliers.
