Despite critical acclaim, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, an open-world role-playing game, did not reach Square Enix's sales targets. However, the work on the final part of the remake trilogy continues, and new details are gradually emerging.

Here's What We Know

In a recent episode of Inside Square Enix, members of the development team discussed their goals for the sequel. Combat director Teruki Endo mentioned the desire for "even more freedom" in combat and core gameplay, although he did not specify how this would be achieved.

Director Naoki Hamaguchi added that the team hopes the final instalment of the trilogy will offer a "different type of gaming experience" compared to Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth. He also stressed that their goal is to complete development as soon as possible.

Earlier this year, producer Yoshinori Kitase said that he planned to complete development within three years, suggesting that the final game could be released around 2027.
