Now without 8K: Sony has redesigned the packaging of the PlayStation 5 game console
Sony recently updated the packaging design of its popular PlayStation 5 game console, removing any mention of 8K support. The focus is now on 4K capabilities at 120fps and HDR.
Here's What We Know
Some speculate that Sony may be preparing to launch an updated version of the console, the PS5 Pro, which is rumoured to arrive later in the year and offer improved 8K support. While the 8K logo has been present on the packaging since the launch of the PS5, including the recently launched PS5 Slim model, it has now disappeared.
The absence of 8K on packaging may not affect most consumers, as 4K is still a more affordable and widespread standard. 8K resolution TVs, although they have been around for over a decade, have not become widely popular. The picture quality between 4K and 8K is often not noticeable to the average user and this is unlikely to change in the foreseeable future.
This decision by Sony could be a strategic move, indicating a shift in the company's focus towards future technologies and capabilities for the next generation of consoles. Perhaps by the time the PlayStation 6 is released, the 8K situation will have changed, but for now, Sony is betting on 4K.
