Another Google app has stopped working in the US
Google has announced the discontinuation of its Google Pay payment service in the US. After announcing the shutdown in February, the GPay app was automatically disabled for users in the US from 4 June. It is now suggested to use the Google Wallet app for contactless payment.
Here's What We Know
GPay will automatically log out US users from 4 June onwards. Retrying to log in shows a warning that the app is no longer available and you can now pay using the Google Wallet app. In addition, Google no longer offers peer-to-peer payments in the US. However, users can still view and transfer their balance to their bank account through the Google Pay website after June.
The company's focus is now on Google Wallet, which is designed to digitise everything in a user's physical wallet. Unlike Google Pay, Google Wallet lacks financial accounting functionality.
The changes made by Google this month will mainly affect users with multiple accounts who have been using GPay for P2P payments. For the rest of us, the absence of GPay likely won't be noticeable as they can easily switch to using Google Wallet.
