Apple has announced a new Safari feature called Highlights for iOS 18 that uses machine learning to create summaries and highlight other useful information about a web page.

Here's What We Know

According to Apple, the new Safari Highlights feature can provide users with useful information about a page as they browse. This includes things like article summaries, directions, and quick links.

During development, Safari Highlights was originally called "Intelligent Search".

With Highlights, users can quickly discover and get relevant information about people, music, movies, TV shows, and places. For example, when planning a trip, you can get the most up-to-date information about a location. This can include the phone number and address of a hotel that may be of interest to tourists.

According to Apple, owners will be able to play music from Highlights or get information about a TV show or film.

Safari 18 also features a redesigned Reader view, which includes AI-generated content as well as summaries of news articles. The same types of summaries will also be available in the Highlights user interface in Safari.

The enhanced AI Safari browser is just one of the many updates to the new operating systems that Apple announced on 10 June. At the annual WWDC, the company presented iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia.
