Apple introduces Genmoji: a new system for creating personalised emojis in iOS 18 with AI
Apple has demonstrated several styles of Genmoji.
Here's What We Know
The Apple Intelligence features in iOS 18 are combined with Messages to create Genmoji, a system that allows you to create new emojis from text prompts. Genmoji is an extension of the Memoji system.
Apple claims that Genmoji will help users in cases when they cannot find the right emoji among the existing ones. Genmoji allows you to create emojis for any situation on the fly. Examples demonstrated by Apple include a cucumber emoji for a spa day and a squirrel DJ for conversation.
Genmoji can be created directly from the keyboard in Messages. They do not extend Unicode, so it is not yet known whether this feature will appear in other applications. Created images can be moved outside of Messages.
Apple also plans to use Genmoji in future versions of iOS 18 and iPad 18, and this feature will be covered in beta versions.
Memoji, which are part of the new Genmoji tools, were originally introduced in 2018 but did not become popular. Apple hopes that the new Genmoji tools will revive interest in Memoji.
Users will be able to create Genmoji from their own photos, and Genmoji can also be created from other people's photos.
