Soon, the Phone Link app will be able to add your Android device to Windows Explorer
Microsoft is preparing an update to the Phone Link app that will allow users to wirelessly access Android phone files through Explorer in Windows 11. This update will give users wireless access to their phone from a PC or laptop as easily as if it were an external hard drive with a wired connection.
Here's What We Know
Users will now not need to open the Phone Link app to access files stored on their Android phone or tablet. As X user @PhantomOnEarth pointed out, the Explorer app in Windows 11 will soon be able to display your Android phone as a shortcut. After clicking on the smartphone shortcut in the app's sidebar, users will be able to see all the files stored on your Android device.
Looks like the Cross Device Experience Host will let you make your device show up in File Explorer in a future update, a toggle for this has been hidden in the app for some time. pic.twitter.com/9zwomWwdTz

There will also be the ability to wirelessly import necessary files from a smartphone or tablet to a Windows 11 laptop or PC. To activate this feature, you'll need to enable the setting in the Settings app on your Windows 11 PC. To realise this feature, the Phone Link app and the Cross Device Experience Host app act as a bridge between Android and Windows.
The integration of a new file manager for files stored on your Android phone or tablet is currently being tested and may soon be released to some users via the Dev and Beta versions of Windows 11. After thorough testing, the feature may be released to all users with compatible devices and capabilities.
