TikTok adverts may soon start using avatars of popular authors or actors created using artificial intelligence
TikTok has unveiled new generative AI tools to help organisations and content creators expand their global audience. New features include digital avatar creation and multi-language dubbing capabilities.
Here's What We Know
The new tools are part of the Symphony advertising suite that was announced last month. There are two types of digital avatars: standard and custom. Standard avatars are based on actors from different nationalities and languages and are available for commercial use. Custom avatars are created to mimic a specific content creator or brand ambassador and can speak multiple languages to reach foreign audiences while maintaining a recognisable image.
To support multilingualism, TikTok introduced the Symphony AI Dubbing tool, which allows content to be dubbed in more than 10 languages and dialects, including French, Spanish, Portuguese, German and Korean. The tool automatically detects the language of the original video and is able to transcribe, translate and create a dubbed video in the user-selected language. Videos using these avatars will be labelled as "created with AI".
However, creators must hope that TikTok's new dubbing tools are accurate enough to avoid the embarrassment of translation errors. TikTok users, tired of the ubiquitous adverts on the platform, may not welcome interacting with digital avatars as much as they do with live people.
