The Galaxy Buds 3 series of headphones may ditch touch controls in favour of pinch controls

According to a recent analysis of the Samsung Members APK file by our colleagues at Android Authority, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Buds 3 headphones may feature pinch sensors. These sensors were discovered in version 5.0.00.11 of the Samsung Members app and could indicate a new way to control the headphones.

Here's What We Know

While the exact functions of the pinch sensors have not yet been revealed, it is expected that they will be used to control playback and other functions of the headphones, similar to what is implemented in Apple, Xiaomi and Nothing products. Typically, such gestures include a single pinch to pause, a double pinch to skip to the next track, and a triple pinch to return to the previous track.

An important advantage of pinch gestures is that they require more conscious action to activate, unlike touch or swipe controls that can be accidentally triggered, such as by hair or when adjusting the earpiece in your ear.

The images found in the APK also show the earbuds with red or blue lights at the base of the stem, which could correspond to the so-called "blade lights" mentioned in the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro leaks.

For now, we can only speculate about the full range of possibilities that the new pinch sensors will open up, but we can already assume that they will bring improvements to the usability of the Galaxy Buds 3 headphones.
