EA can exhale: Paradox Interactive cancels 'The Sims' main rival Life by You

Paradox Interactive has announced the cancellation of Life by You, a life simulation game that was supposed to be a competitor to The Sims series from Electronic Arts. Deputy CEO Mattias Lilja announced the cancellation on the studio's official forum. It should be noted that the cancellation came after several postponements and delays of the game's early access release on Steam.

Here's What We Know

Lilja explained the cancellation, noting that after the recent indefinite delay of the early access version of the game, Paradox Interactive took a broader look at the project. The company realised that, despite "gradual improvements" after the delays, the game was still far from the company's quality standards.

The executive said that a few weeks before, they decided to postpone the early access release to reassess Life by You, as the developers felt that the game was still not finalised in key areas. While extending the deadline was an option, a broader assessment showed that the path to a satisfactory release was too long and uncertain.

Lilja mentioned that the game showed promise, with the strengths and hard work of the dedicated team behind it. However, the developers had reached a point where they believed that more time would not bring them closer to a version they were happy with. So, they decided it was best to stop development. This was a difficult and disappointing decision for everyone involved, especially given how late it was made.
