Italy to transfer a new batch of Storm Shadow air-launched cruise missiles to Ukraine

Italy is preparing a new military aid package for Ukraine. It will include Storm Shadow cruise missiles. This is reported by the Fatto Quotidiano newspaper.

Here's What We Know

The new tranche of military aid is expected to be presented in the Italian Parliament by the end of this month. An official announcement is expected at the NATO summit to be held in Washington next month.

Previously, Ukraine received Storm Shadow cruise missiles from the UK, while France supplied its own analogue called SCALP EG. They have a maximum launch range of more than 200 kilometres.

Ukraine has effectively used the missiles to strike Russian forces in temporarily occupied territories. In particular, SCALP EG and Storm Shadow, supported by naval drones and Neptun anti-ship missiles, forced Russia to remove 14 ships and submarines from Sevastopol.

Last autumn, the Defence Forces eliminated the large landing ship Minsk and the submarine Rostov-on-Don. Storm Shadow and/or SCALP EG cruise missiles were used for this purpose.
