Sunbird: iMessage on Android may become paid
Sunbird has announced that it is expanding the availability of its iMessage service for Android. In a press release published last week, the company said it has sent out invitations to the beta version of the app to 171,000 users on a waiting list, who will start receiving them this month.
Flashback
Sunbird is an app that allows Android users to send and receive iMessages. Since its initial launch in November 2022, Sunbird has faced several issues, including privacy concerns and a lack of public access to the app.
Here's What We Know
The new beta version currently only supports iMessage, but there are plans to add support for RCS via Google Messages in the future.
Although Sunbird claims to offer free access to its service, Reddit users have reported receiving invitations to the beta with a mention of a possible subscription fee of $1.99 per month. Currently, Sunbird does not charge for its services, and this is a significant change in their strategy.
Sunbird does not provide clear information about this in their press release.
