iPhone apps can be integrated with the Translate app on iOS 17.4 and later

At WWDC 2024, Apple introduced a new API for its Translate software that allows developers to integrate built-in translation capabilities into their apps on iOS 17.4 and later, iPadOS 17.4, macOS Sonoma and later.

Here's What We Know

Until now, iPhone, iPad, and Mac have offered system-level translation for selected text, websites in Safari, and more. However, the new API makes it easy to translate user-generated content, such as reviews, directly in the app. For example, users can quickly translate their Japanese review into other languages with the click of a button.

The iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia updates added an improved Translate API that allows translated text to be displayed directly in the app line instead of a separate translation sheet.

Another new change in iOS 18 is support for a dual-language keyboard, which allows users to type in English and another language on the same keyboard without having to manually switch languages.

The iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia updates are currently in developer beta and will be available to the general public later this year.
