Russia's Black Sea Fleet "escaped" from its base in Crimea, as Ukrainian drones and missiles have reached it
Russia has withdrawn its Black Sea Fleet from military bases in Crimea, as Ukraine managed to force it to "hide" with naval drones and missiles.
Here's What We Know
Ukrainian attacks on the port of Sevastopol and Russian warships over the past two years have led to the withdrawal of Russian warships to bases on the other side of Crimea and to Novorossiysk in Russia.
Recently released satellite imagery analysed by BlackSky showed the relocation of Black Sea Fleet ships. It is worth noting that Ukraine, which has no navy of its own, has suffered heavy losses to Russian warships.
US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin said last week that Ukraine had relied on its fleet of homemade naval drones and missiles to sink, destroy or damage at least 24 Russian vessels in the Black Sea.
These attacks were carried out almost throughout the war, but the Black Sea Fleet's withdrawal began after Ukraine launched two separate attacks on Sevastopol. It then used Western-made cruise missiles against the occupiers to bombard a key shipyard and fleet headquarters.
