The company known for its modular Framework laptops has released open-source 3D CAD files for its most popular laptop, allowing users to modify it. This opens up the possibility of 3D printing laptops.

One community member, Joseph Schroedl, has created an open-source RGB LED matrix that can be retrofitted into a conventional LED matrix input module. Others, such as EmilioP, have developed a new case for carrying Expansion Bay modules that use Framework 16.
The company says that its main hope in releasing the CAD files as open source was to kickstart a modding community and make it possible to create 3D printed laptop replacement parts and other accessories. Already, some community members are showing their creativity by designing new modules and accessories for Framework laptops.
